The sequel expanded the roster with Johnny Cage, Kitana, Jade, Shao Kahn, Sindel, Baraka and other established game characters.
Filming began in Queensland, Australia, in June 2023, paused during the SAG-AFTRA strike and concluded in January 2024.
Stephen F. Windon handled cinematography, Stuart Levy edited the film and Benjamin Wallfisch composed the score.
The film premiered in Los Angeles on April 27, 2026, opened internationally from May 6 and reached North American theaters and IMAX on May 8, 2026.
